Monday Practice Notes

From Ristuccia Arena
-After his teammates concluded their practice, Andrew Alberts went on the ice for approximately 15 minutes of work with assistant coach Doug Houda. Alberts said his neck is feeling better and he's scheduled to be re-evaluated on Wednesday to determine whether he can ramp up his workouts. Alberts will not be on the three-game trip.

-Petteri Nokelainen sat out practice because of flu-like symptoms. Nokelainen will travel with the team.

-Peter Schaefer (shin) practiced on the fourth line today and will travel to Raleigh. Schaefer didn't think he'd be ready to play in any of the games. Schaefer still has the stitches in his shin.

-Peter Chiarelli is currently in Naples, Fla., for the first day of the GM meetings. Claude Julien said he hasn't addressed his players about the impending trade deadline, which is 3 p.m. next Tuesday. "It's the reality of the game," Julien said of trade talks. "I know this is a time where players worry more than ever. But it could happen at any time of the year. We know there's probably going to be some action going on here in the next week."

Here's the practice lines...

Sturm-Metropolit-Kobasew
Lucic-Krejci-Kessel

For what? He didn't do anything here and obviously didn't do anything there so..

We need REAL scoring.

Why would you take Lucic off of the Metro-Kobasew line? Before Kobasew got hurt that line was Boston's best and most consistent line. Not to mention a lot of fun to watch.

And here is what the lines SHOULD be:
Sturm-Savard-Murray
Lucic-Metropolit-Kobasew
Axelsson-Krejci-Kessel
Reich-Sobotka-Thornton

Chara-Wideman
Stuart-Ward
Ference-Hnidy

Federko - do you think maybe Julien should maybe slot Kessel back in the middle as maybe he has not adapted well on the wing? And Lucic is really surprising - I think he's the only player on the team who has produced from every line.

The Bs have too many centers so that would mean either putting Metro down to the fourth line and bumping Sobotka or Kessel down there, neither of which (IMHO) makes a whole lot of sense. I think the biggest problem with Kessel at center is (technically) he is supposed to be the 3rd man back and is a defensive liability already. I think they are hoping his scoring prowess translates to wing where he is less vulnerable.
