Murray Placed On Waivers

The Boston Bruins have placed winger Glen Murray on unconditional waivers. This is to be the first step in the buyout process.

7/24 2:09pm Edit: Muzz cleared

Part of me is not so happy about this as Muzz has been a fairly large part of this organization for some time. The other part of me, of course, knows that based on his declining performance these past two years this is purely a business move that had to be done.

Good luck Muzz.

I feel the same way. Muzz was the final piece that linked back to the Cam days. I would love to see him pot 40 goals this year and go out on top (SJ?).

Silly question. If they buyout Muzz, they take a cap hit of approx 1.3MM, and they'll be about 1.2MM under the cap. Since he'll become a UFA, what stops them from signing him to a one year deal at $1MM? Must be something in the CBA - or did no GM ever think of it?

My understanding is that the player cannot resign with the team who releases him for 1 season, at least that is what I read somewhere.

Probably right. I think it;s the first time a Team/GM has started a buyout procedure to a player they actually WANT to remain with the team. I also read some rumors that the B's are going after Bouwmeester of Florida. Would be nice to make a package for him, but who do we give up? Also, if you look at the roster, I don't see space for Marchand, Soderberg, Hamill, Wheely, Lashoff or Hunwick. Maybe we should trade some and clear some space. But I am not a GM.

Question for you guys...

If someone picks Murray up off waivers, does that mean he is completely off our books? Or no matter what are we eating up some of the contract? Thanks.

if someone claims him they take his full contract and the Bruins pay nothing

which is why no-one would do that. They would rather wait (as would he) and take the buy-out option and get him for a few million less.
