With the recent struggles of Shane Hnidy and Mark Stuart, the Bruins could use another stay-at-home defenseman to bolster the third defensive pairing.
GM Peter Chiarelli said he's hoping for a healthy Andrew Alberts to return from a neck injury, which would eliminate the need to trade for a defenseman before Tuesday. Chiarelli, however, acknowledged that Alberts's recovery time is unknown. Alberts has been skating on his own this week at Ristuccia Arena.
In 21 games with the Bruins, Hnidy has proven to be a No. 7 defenseman.
