Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has signed defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk to an entry-level contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.
"Andrew has the ability to be a prototypical defenseman in the new NHL," said Chiarelli. "He is smart, and can both move the puck and skate well. As he learns how to play against bigger and stronger players at the NHL level, he will mature into a productive player for our club."
Bodnarchuk, a 5'11, 190-pound defenseman, was selected by the Bruins with their fifth pick (128th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He has played for the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) since the 2005-2006 season, tallying nine goals and 32 assists in 55 games for the Mooseheads this season.
Last season, the 19-year old defenseman scored 16 goals and registered four assists in 63 regular season games. He also amassed 96 penalty minutes. During the Mooseheads' playoff run he added 11 points, and 25 penalty minutes in 12 games.
During his 2005-2006 season with Halifax, Bodnarchuk scored six goals and added 17 assists and 136 penalty minutes in 68 regular season games. He also accumulated 22 penalty minutes in 11 post-season games.

yeah cuz signing a rookie to an entry level contract and trading him a week after would do soooo much for his confidence even in a new place...thats not gonna happen
