Deadline Rumors
The February 26 trading deadline as it does in all sports, brings trade rumors. According to the Boston Herald, there have been rumblings that touted guys like Matt Lashoff, Mark Stuart, and even Phil Kessel could be dealt to land a high-end scoring forward. The Bruins have been rumored all season long to be interested in another solid defenseman as well.
McKeon's Take- There is not much to say about this beside the fact they are what they are, rumors. I know fans want to see a quick fix but, a quick fix may not be the answer. The quick fix is what buried this franchise years ago. You can't get out of a deep hole by simply jumping right out. You have to slowly but surely climb your way back out with smart decisions that will not drop you further into the hole. That's the best analogy I can come up for regarding this but, it makes sense doesn't it? I really do not think it is smart to sell the future for the time being. The Bruins have some promising prospects (both in Boston and in Providence) and if they make a deal without shipping a bunch out for a proven scorer, then sign me up.

As i said in my column on sports of boston, I think the best way to approach the situation is to stay put. I know it sounds crazy but the team seems to gel, this year, despite all the injuries. I don't think the timing is right to trade our best propects for an high-end forward who will barely change something to the fact that the Bruins won't go deep in hte playoffs, this year.
There's a serious depth issue and i don't think that ONE player can change this situation. Chiarelli better run with the actual roster and pray that they will achieve-overachieve and sneak into the 8th spot. Trading our future for an early exit in the playoffs would shortshighted at the very best...
I have been saying from the beginning that this team would be better this year for one reason alone - coaching. And they have played better but still lack a top 4 D-man and 2 top 6 forwards (would have been only 1 if Bergeron didnt go down). That being said, they could still make the playoffs but realistically won't get past the first round. Great if they do but I just don't see it.
Now, moving onto next year and the year after I think with the right moves and the ability to keep the core of this team in tact I think the Bs could actually make a run for it, providing of course they can keep Julien on board (how long is his contract anyways?). Trades now will get them no-where as they don't want to give anyone up for a short timer who wouldnt make a difference anyways. I don't blame them.
first off, nice site. I agree lets not foresake the future for the present, Keep the nucleus of this team together. Get rid of a schaefer or, once alberts comes back, maybe a Hnidy(not sure of the spelling). I do think they can get by the first round, as long as we don't play the habs.
Love the site !! Trade Ferrence and Schaefer !!!
That is a huge trade for Ottawa. Hopefully that starts the trading season. The Bruins don't need to make a huge trade...just something to show that Management is willing to make a move. Landing a scorer sure would be nice, here's hoping !!
My biggest fear about the Bruins is the fact that they have the bad habit to make a dumb move to " salvage " a playoffs hope. When i look at the improvement, this year, it would be foolish to touch the core of the team for a quick fix. Patience is the name of the game and with some tweaking, the Bruins will really compete for a playoffs spot, next year, and probably for something higher then the 8th spot.
I like the B's as they are right now, but I still feel as if we could use a bit more of a scoring touch to go with the defensive minded team. I say dump Ferrence, Schaefer, and/or Thornton and bring in Prospal or Tuomo Ruutu. I know it's very unlikely, but without Bergy we need a more dynamic player on the ice. And what are we gonna do with Manny if he comes back?
