Savard Update

After being hit from behind by Steve Begin in Saturday's game against the Montreal Canadiens, Marc Savard had a CT Scan at Mass General Hospital and will not be in the line-up for Tuesday's game in Toronto. The results from the CT Scan are unknown however, if it comes back positive it could be something along the lines of a cracked rib or another broken bone.

Update 8:35- It appears that Savard is now definitely out for the next two games after having a CT Scan on his lower back/mid-torso. He will undergo another exam and possibly another CT Scan later this week.

McKeon's Take- This is a detrimental blow to this line-up as the team is already struggling to score with the number two man in assists playing, let alone without him (second by one point to old friend Joe Thornton). This concerns me dearly as this team needs a set-up guy like him to feed the puck to marginal/streaky scorers. Unfortunately, I missed the incident but I would love to know if it was an actual cheap shot or not. If it was, is this all Kyle McLaren karma coming to kick us right in the groin? Probably not but, the hockey gods work in funny ways and they haven't smiled down on the black and gold in quite a bit of time...

Yeah it was cheap....a solid cross-check from Begin !!! Hmmmm, he was only on the ice for about 3 minutes all game !! I hope the Habs get killed in the play-offs and their pretty boy (Kovalev)and turtle neck wearing bitch (Plekanec) have to pick up their teeth !!

It was a dirty hit that should have been at least a PP for the B's who could have scored on the 5-on-3. But who dare give Mtl a penalty in the final minutes in Montreal. Sometimes, situations like this come and someone steps up to the plate. If I was Kessel, I don't think I'd have a better time to prove myself. I think Kessel should be the #1 center now, not Krejci and not Metro - but Kessel. I think a top line of Sturm, Krejci and Kessel would also be a good fit. We should know if we're going to the playoffs by the end of the Toronto game tomorrow. Montreal won't get past the first round no matter who they face - no worries. Bergeron went down and we thought it was over and it wasn't. Thomas went down and we thought it was over and it wasn't. I really (and I mean really) want to see someone, anyone, take this team onto their shoulders and into the playoffs. Chara? Lucic? Murray? Sturm? Someone please!! High marks for Thornton - every time he's on the ice you notice him.

It is too bad that Savvy is out for the next 2....but Ferance out, I'm sorry to say, can only help the team.

Can someone explain to me why KPD of the Globe only comes out to write articles when the Bruins are in trouble and are sliding? Even when they were playing well, he wrote "Hey, they should suck any game now". Come on!

KPD is one of the most ignorant Boston sports writers out there. The guy is so friggen negative about anything having to do with this team.

I read the Herald Sports section mostly (not much better, I know) and here, of course.

I also did not see the hot by Begin but Montreal in general are a bunch of pussy hacks. Always have been, always will be. I have had quite a few exchanges with them on some of the Youtube clips. They think their team is unflappable. Time for them to pull their heads out of their Canadian asses.

It wasn't a cheap shot in a Randy Jones/Scott Hartnell sense, but it definitely was a blatant cross check/hit from behind. I'm not sure why it wasn't called either way. Savard had no idea he was coming and Begin was definitely not looking to take the puck from him.

Call a penalty against Mtl in Mtl in the final minutes? Make them lose a game to the Bruins? It was the anniversary of the Rocket Richard riots and the refs didn't want a repeat.

Bruins dig deep to beat Leafs 3-1. No Savard? It was time for the baby B's to take center stage. Phil Kessel and David Krecji traded goals and assists in the second period as the Bruins came back from a late first period goal. It was the first game in which the Bruins were playing without their number one center Marc Savard. Zdeno Chara and Dennis Wideman assisted on the goals, while PJ Axelsson assisted on Marco Sturm's empty net goal to clinch the win for the Bruins - their first in four games. "We knew that without Savvy, and they were without Sundain that we would need to dig deep to pull it off" said Ward after the game. "We sort of fed off of what Lucic and Thornton were trying to do out there". Thornton sent Alex Steen into Thursday's game to which Darcy Tucker came out to challenge Thornton but was mesmerized and introduced to the young Lucic. The Bruins were energized after that fight and saw their two youngsters score two goals in under 5 minutes mid way through the third to give the Bruisn the lead. Tim Thomas not to be forgotten looked shaky on the first Leafs goal but then turned aside the next 22 shots including a miraculous shorthanded 2-on-1 late in the third. The Bruins kept themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt with the win, combined with the Flyers' loss moves them back into seventh place.
