OK, here's my story. My friends asked me to go out to eat at Chili's tonight. Reluctantly, I said yes as it would be a jolly good time. We walk into the place and one television is showing the Bruins game, no big deal. The score is 1-1 in the first period. Terrific! A good game! I get up to take a peak at the score a bit later (our table had a terrible angle in regards to the flat screen) and it's 3-1...We just sat down 10 minutes ago! What the...?! Time passes and I can tell it's intermission so, I wait to check the score. I see the ice looks fresh, I take a few bites of my bacon burger and BAM, it's 5-1. What a joke, right?! On the way home I get a text message from my buddy, "Uh, y did the b's just lose 8-2?" I wish I knew...
Could someone explain this utter nonsense to me?

I can only comment on the game until it was 4-1 because I had to go to work for a short stint. But up to that point Thomas almost seemed to appear tired, like he was last year when Lewis rode him for a long stretch with no games off. The first goal was a lucky bounce to Blake on the PP, fine, but the next three were crap. Pokahosky (as Don Cherry calls him) should not have been able to blow it by Thomas, he does not have a Sakic-like wrist shot, but it fooled Tim nonetheless. The McCabe PP goal was complete fluke as his pass that was obviously going wide was redirected into the net by Metropolit (I think). The Stajan goal was the deal breaker for me though as he walked out from behind the net and just slid it under Thomas, no way he let that in 2 months ago. The goal scoring killer instinct just doesn't seem to be there either as the shots are not tough saves for the goalie to make (minus the Florida game) and the Schaefer goal barely went under Toskala's arm, don't get me wrong it was a pretty passing play, but a playoff goaltender like Brodeur, Lundqvist or Ward would not have been beat that easy.
My biggest beef is that the PK in both big losses has been absolutely abysmal(Wash 4PP goals on 7 tries, Tor 4PP goals on 6 tries) I get that Wash has a good PP (6th in league) but 57% converted in a game, worse is Tor who is 24th in the league and we let them have their way with us for 67% conversion. WHAT??? I thought we had improved since the beginning of the year in that regard, but here we go reverting back.
Mark Stuart is not a 22 minute d-man and should be shown the press box in favor of a call up because that dude was BAD the chunk of the game that I watched.
I have no idea how Julien will fix this trainwreck of a past week but he had better get results soon as the rest of the schedule is teams that we are fighting for a playoff spot with or division rivals (minus TBay).
I've been hoping for the B's to call up Matt Lashoff all season, and give him another go in the big time. He'd be a good replacement for Stuart.
First off, McKeon, this is a wonderful oasis of Bruins coverage, and I applaud you for taking the time to keep it up and running. Now, to the faltering Bruins.
From the perspective of a huge fan but only a moderate hockey connaisseur, it looks like the Bruins have a lack of confidence when things start to go wrong. Many have lauded this season's team for their "bouncebackability" and their favorable record when leading in the third. But, without statistics at hand, mind you, it looks like they have a hard time shaking off bad breaks and fighting back in games in which they've dug themselves a hole. There were signs that this would not be the case this year. Particularly, the OT loss to the Penguins a few months ago when they battled back from 4 goals down to force the overtime. That's the kind of heart they need. But I don't see it on the ice. Instead, after a couple of bad calls, tough bounces, missed chances... the wheels come off. And they start to play the panicky, sloppy style of hockey that screams defeat. My old soccer coach would've said they are about as together as a "soup sandwich" out there. Instead of finishing checks and dumping in with a purpose, they chip and chase and when the play gets busted they commit the sins of hooking and tripping and further diminish their chances of climbing back into the game. They have got to know they have the talent and the resolve to dismantle a team like Toronto, even down 5-1. They're not going to be up by 3 goals often enough to be really comfortable. They've got to believe, and stand tall when things get a little rocky. After all, the fans sure do.
