Off-Season Sidebar

This afternoon I updated the sidebar with a list of player salaries, RFA's/UFA's, and a list of potential signee's in Boston. If you see any mistakes, let me know.

Of all the players the Bruins have up for free agency, I think Dennis Wideman is the most important one to be signed. He had such a great breakout year, and he has huge upside. I wouldn't be too worried if any of the others left. Although I'd love to see Glen Metropolit back. He was so solid all season.

Personally I would like to see Soderberg get a chance to make this team. I know his wish is NHL or nothing but I think he would be a great 3rd line center that has size and can score. If that were the case, look for the Bs to not sign Metro unless he becomes a 4th line guy.

Bs already have too much depth at center.

The question is, do you take a chance at an unproven player, or re-sign the solid go-to guy? I think the Bruins have enough youth, and could use the experience he brings...

On another note, Peter Chiarelli apparently has said that the B's are looking to draft some one with size up front. I think they should take Jared Staal with the 16th pick... he's rated top of the second round, and he's going to be a great player.

I'm pretty much convinced that all of you that think Marian Hossa is a good fit are insane. Not that I'm taking any jabs at his ability or the potential of him and Savvy together, but he's going to be asking in the 10 million range per season. I'd rather see them spend 10-12 million on a couple players. Brian Rolston or Matt Cooke would look good in a Bruins jersey.

I do agree with Ron Hainsey, He's a good D-man at probably a decent price tag.
